Looking to slim your figure and get ready for the summer months? These days, non-surgical solutions for body contouring are more effective than ever when it comes to reducing stubborn pockets of fat and achieving the leaner, more sculpted physique you desire. Two of the most popular treatments are SculpSure and CoolSculpting. Which treatment is best for you? We have compared the two to help patients choose for themselves.
What is the difference between Sculpsure and Coolsculpting?
Both SculptSure and CoolSculpting are designed to smooth and sculpt the figure without invasive treatments and without requiring downtime. However, their method of targeting fat tissue differs.
SculpSure is designed to specifically target fat in your desired treatment areas with a unique wavelength of laser energy that destroys fat cells.
CoolSculpting, on the other hand, generally freezes and destroys tissue in the treatment area, but it does not specifically target fat cells.
How do the CoolSculpting and SculpSure technologies work?
SculpSure, also known as “warmsculpting,” is applied with a device that passes laser energy through the skin and into the fat. The energy wavelength heats and damages fat cells. These cells die and are then flushed out naturally by the body, revealing a slimmer, more sculpted area.
CoolSculpting freezes the entire treatment region. The cooling crystalizes the tissues in the area, which has the effect of destroying some fat cells. The dead tissues are then naturally flushed away by the body to achieve a more sculpted effect.
Both procedures achieve results after one treatment, but the results are more dramatic and effective with multiple treatments.
Are either of the treatments painful?
There is a mild amount of discomfort, but neither of the treatments is considered painful. Both treatments can cause other mild side effects, such as a temporarily irregular contour of the skin.
In terms of serious side effects, in rare cases, Coolsculpting has been associated with fat hypertrophy. This condition results in the opposite effect being caused by the treatment, meaning that fat deposits can actually become larger as opposed to smaller. This rare issue has NOT been described with Sculpsure.
How permanent are the results of each treatment?
As long as your weight remains stable, the removed fat will not return after either CoolSculpting or SculpSure. However, if you gain weight, the remaining fat cells in the area will get larger, causing the problem area to return.
Which technology does Dr. Weber prefer?
Dr. Weber prefers Sculpsure for several reasons. The treatments are quick and well tolerated by patients, the results are effective, and there is no risk of paradoxical worsening of fat deposits (as is rarely seen with CoolSculpting).
