If you’re noticing lines and signs of age on your forehead, or you’re hoping to prevent lines from showing up in the first place, Weber Facial Plastic Surgery provides solutions to help you achieve a smooth, youthful-looking brow.
What causes deep forehead lines?
Deep forehead lines are caused by the repetitive action of the muscles of the forehead, which contract when we raise or wrinkle our eyebrows. Every day these expressions are made countless times, and as the years pass, the wrinkles become imprinted into the skin resulting in lines that are always present.
Forehead lines can be exacerbated by stress, lifestyle factors, the lack of a healthy skincare routine, and sun damage.
Can forehead lines be prevented?
Botox is an effective preventative treatment to ward off forehead lines before they form. Botox reduces excessive forehead muscle contraction, which effectively prevents forehead wrinkles from forming.
Forehead lines can also be reduced with proper hydration, daily use of sunscreen, and adequate daily rest. These factors improve the health and strength of the skin.
How can “dynamic” forehead wrinkles be eliminated?
“Dynamic” forehead wrinkles are the lines caused by repetitive motions such as raising the eyebrows, squinting, or frowning. These repetitive motions cause the muscles to continually contract, which causes the lines to remain in place on the skin. To eliminate these lines, Botox is precisely injected into the exact muscles that are contracting to cause the wrinkles, which relaxes them and smooths the wrinkles away. It’s important to note that Botox doesn’t “paralyze” facial movement. Botox simply reduces unwanted muscle contraction while still maintaining normal facial expression.
Once lines are imprinted on the forehead skin, what can be done?
Once your forehead is showing lines and wrinkles, Botox treatments every three months can be used to relax and smooth the lines. Dermal fillers can also be used to fill wrinkles and create a smoother, more youthful contour.
Microneedling treatments or fractional ablative LASER resurfacing are effective facial rejuvenation treatments that can help erase imprinted lines by renewing and refreshing the skin, both on the surface and from the inside, with a significant boost of collagen.
How much downtime results from Botox, dermal fillers and microneedling?
There is no downtime to worry about after Botox or dermal filler treatments, and the recovery period is quite minimal, usually only lasting about a day as any redness at the injection sites or swelling dissipates.
During your recovery period after microneedling, expect about a day of downtime. Your skin will be red and feel as if it has been sunburnt, and there may be mild swelling depending upon how aggressively the treatments were performed. This will fade by the next day.
After your Botox, dermal fillers, or microneedling treatments, avoid manipulating or massaging the skin, direct sunlight, exfoliating, alcohol, strenuous exercise, the sauna, and/or hot tubs for 24 hours.
How often does Botox need to be repeated?
Botox slowly wears off over the course of 3-4 months as your body processes and metabolizes the injected substance. Repeat treatments are recommended every 3-4 months to maintain your results.
How often does dermal filler need to be repeated?
You’ll need repeat filler treatments every 12-18 months, depending on the rate your body metabolizes the fillers and where the fillers are injected. Areas of the face that move more tend to need touch-ups sooner than areas that don’t.
