Lip augmentation with fillers such as Juvederm Ultra XC, Volbella, Vollure or Restylane creates fuller, plumper lips and is one of the most frequently-performed injectable procedures. Lip augmentation can be used to not only enhance the pout for youthful women seeking a particular look but can also be performed for more mature women wishing to reverse thin or flat lips creating a more youthful and vibrant smile. In both of these cases and many more, lip fillers can help you achieve your desired look and properly done lip fillers look perfectly natural.
A successful lip augmentation has as its goal an enhanced, but natural, look. Of course, the patient herself can also request that the outcome be more pronounced if a more obvious result is desired but, in the vast majority of cases, Dr. Weber’s patients request the ideal “subtle but also significant” change. Achieving natural-looking lip injections depends upon four primary factors:
- The right injector: This appears obvious; however, it is important to take your time to find a good plastic surgeon or plastic surgery focused Physician Assistant with whom you feel comfortable and that has proper licensing, experience and “aesthetic eye.” Your provider should be able to show you examples of well-done lip augmentations.
- A good filler: There are many different types of FDA-approved fillers on the market. The best lip filler products tend to be those containing hyaluronic acid (HA), a gel found naturally in the body that helps to add temporary filling and definition to the lips. Most of our patients can expect 12-18 months of benefit after undergoing lip filler injections. Beautiful and natural lip filler results can be achieved with products such as Juvederm Ultra XC, Vollure, Volbella, Restylane and others.
- The Four Ps (Provider, Product, Proportion and Placement): Lip augmentation is a sensitive procedure due to the complex nature and delicate anatomy of the lips. As Dr. Weber frequently says, “Natural lip injections require a combination of the right provider, the right product and the right proportion of filler placed in the right part of the lips.” The injector is the primary variable: anyone can inject a filler product while only an experienced and knowledgeable provider can assess and correctly apply just the right amount of filler in the right locations. It is increasingly important to know the credentials of your injector, the background of the injector’s supervising physician (if you choose a non-MD injector), the injector’s training and experience, the products used and where those products are obtained.
At Weber Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Weber and Heather McBryde, PA, have extensive experience with all FDA-approved injectables.
